Ecological Economics Research Information

Centre for Science and Environment

The Centre for Science and Environment is one of India’s leading environmental NGOs with a deep interest in sustainable natural resource management. CSE’s strategy of "knowledge based activism" has won it wide respect and admiration for the quality of its campaigns, research and publications which are trying to bring about change in an extremely difficult situation. CSE’s insistence on respect for democracy, people’s participation, traditional knowledge and modern science make it different even from most environmental organisations.

Centre for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy

The Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy (CASSE) is a tax-exempt organization dedicated to advocating a sustainable economy with stabilized population and consumption. This economy is called a "steady state economy." The purposes of CASSE are to: educate citizens and policy makers about the fundamental conflict between economic growth (increasing production and consumption of goods and services) and environmental protection, economic sustainability, national security and international stability; promote a steady state economy of stabilized, mildly fluctuating size as a sustainable alternative to economic growth; and study the means conducive to the establishment of a steady state economy.

Database on Pesticides and the Environment

The Database on Pesticides and the Environment is the result of information compiled from 1992 to 1996. It constitutes a unique source of information on pesticides used in Asia. For the first time, to our knowledge, pesticides widely used in Asia were put in a direct relationship with their environmental and health effects. An attempt was also made attracting the attention of the users of the database to environmentally friendlier alternatives of crop protection, e.g. through Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods.

Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) - Water Conservation Research Database

The Research Database on Water Conservation is run in conjunction with the Environment Agency's National Water Demand Management Centre. The Aims of the research database are to: collect and maintain information from organisations and individuals carrying out research, trials or casework on water conservation which are completed, underway or proposed, and where the findings of the research will be available to the public; publish high level information about these projects so as to encourage collaboration, minimise duplication of effort, publicise the availability of research and assist with the dissemination of results.

The Geography Site

An excellent resource aimed for use by teachers, students and anyone with an interest in geography and how our planet works. It covers a wide range of environmental problems in detail and provides numerous links to other useful sites.

Environmental Treaties and Resource Indicators (ENTRI)

ENTRI is a fast, convenient, comprehensive online search service for finding information about environmental treaties and national resource indicators. The ENTRI system is unique in allowing you to construct queries that integrate these different types of data.

EU Center

EU Center is a non-profit initiative for organisations who wish to contribute to the establishment of an open civil society and democratic discourse throughout Europe. It maintains a website whose aim is to provide practical assistance to institutions of higher education, municipalities and small and medium-sized enterprises across Europe about EU funding opportunities. EU Center publishes a monthly newsletter and runs EC project development and management training courses.

European Environment Agency

The EEA aims to support sustainable development and to help achieve significant and measurable improvement in Europe's environment through the provision of timely, targeted, relevant and reliable information to policy making agents and the public.

FiscallyGreen.ca, Pembina Institute

FiscallyGreen.ca provides a one-stop shop for information on ecological fiscal reform (EFR) in Canada and around the world. This Web site provides a forum for highlighting the work of groups, organizations and bodies working on EFR in Canada. The site also provides a venue for the dissemination of information and the exchange of ideas related to EFR in Canada and around the world.

Green Indian States Trust (GIST)

Green Indian States Trust (GIST) is committed to help India achieve a better and sustainable future. We propose, through our “Green Accounting for Indian States & Union Territories Project” (“GAISP”), to build a framework of national accounts that presents genuine net additions to national wealth. This system of environmentally-adjusted national income accounts will measure the depletion of natural resources and the costs of pollution and will evaluate additions to the stock of human capital. We hope that a policy consequence of Green Accounting may be gradual increases in budgetary allocations towards improvements in education, public health and environmental conservation.

Global Network of Environment & Technology (GNET)

GNET is an award-winning environmental technology, news and business center that promotes the use of innovative environmental technologies. This site is made possible by a cooperative agreement from the National Energy Technology Laboratory and the Department of Energy's Office of Science and Technology.

Global Resource Bank

Global Resource Information Database (GRID)

GRID-Sioux Falls is very active in the development and design of scientifically credible products in a timely manner to support decision-making in areas where the international community is actively engaged, such as the Great Lakes region of Africa and the Mesopotamia Marshlands. The programme has also facilitated the flow of developing country data to the North American scientific community and vice versa. It is in the forefront of providing information technology tools -- remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), data management and advanced Internet technologies, to address sustainable development issues.

Information Center for the Environment

The Information Center for the Environment (ICE) is a cooperative effort of environmental scientists at the University of California, Davis and collaborators at over thirty private, state, federal, and international organizations interested in environmental protection. ICE, in association with the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programs of UNESCO and the United States, is developing databases of vascular plant and vertebrate animal occurrences on the world's biosphere reserves and other protected areas. Currently, the MABFlora (for plants) and MABFauna (for vertebrate animals) databases contain records from 803 protected areas in 108 countries. The MABFlora and MABFauna databases are continually updated as additional data are received.

International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)

IIED's Environmental Economics Programme aims to conduct policy-relevant analysis on the economics of sustainable development. This information is then disseminated in the form of books, papers, and journals, the majority of which are available free for download from the Programme's website.

Leadership for Environment and Development

Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) is an international network of professionals committed to sustainable development. Its 1200 members from nearly 70 countries are drawn from business, media, public sectors, academia and non-government organizations. The LEAD network was set up in 1991 by The Rockefeller Foundation. LEAD's aim is to create and sustain a global network of emerging and working leaders ready and willing to address environment and development challenges in different countries.

New Zealand Centre for Ecological Economics

The New Zealand Centre for Ecological Economics was established in 2004 to provide techniques to help decision-makers in communities, industry and government work together to achieve sustainable outcomes. Research projects currently underway include analysing and minimising energy and material flows in the primary sector, which is important for sustainability in New Zealand as much of the country's economic activity is land based. Another major project focuses on realizing sustainable cities. Once the biophysical functioning of cities in New Zealand is understood the objective is to provide a wider socio-economic framework for developing city and regional scenarios to better inform decision-makers of the options available for decoupling of economic growth and social progress from environmental harm.
